Achievements:
Australian and NZ Ch Dalius Bandmaster (Imp UK)
On the 25 May 2005 a very special gentleman left this world. Daly was special from the time he set foot in New Zealand with his sister Pepper. They both bounced off the plane after 30 hours in the air barking with the joy of life that Daly maintained until the end. Pepper and Daly were lovely puppies absolutely bomb proof and scared of nothing. Pepper even managed to get a challenge in New Zealand at the tender age of 6 and a half months before travelling to Tasmania where she lived with Heather Morrison until so tragically killed by a Tiger snake.
Daly was well known as a clown, he loved to have an audience and would bark until he had one, he was a classic retriever only happy when he had his mouth full, he especially loved soft toys. I can still remember vividly the time he was being shown at a specialist show in a hall used for indoor cricket, as I ran around with him I suddenly heard this awful tearing sound and everyone started to laugh, unbeknown to me Daly had managed in mid stride to lean down and grab the end of the marking tape on the floor and was happily pulling it all up as we ran around the ring!! Daly was also known for undoing judges buttons,(he liked the ladies!!) pinching their flowers and ofcourse licking their faces!!
He always had a constantly wagging tail which he did not like being held still, he was a challenge to show but had that knack of just looking at you and making you laugh, he managed to get away with murder, I just couldn?t tell him off!! Dispite his antics in the ring Daly did exceptionally well especially under English and specialist judges taking In Show awards at Specialist and Gundog Shows under such icons of the breed as Ron Bradbury, Margaret Somerton, Barbare Moore, John Clarke, Jim Crosbie, Kate Crosbie-Black, Alan Poulton, Robyn Brown, Sandra Patterson, Alan Morris, Dianne Lee, Ruth Thompson, Jim McKender, Barbara Mills, Marrianne Holm Hansen and Mervyn Phillpott. There are probably others I have forgotten.
Alan Morris in his critique of Daly said it all:-
?I thought this dog was super, oozing quality and substance. Excellent conformation and balance with lovely angulation, particularly with stifle, and very level topline. Very nice masculine head, straight front and good depth of rib. Presented expertly in good hard condition, moved with drive and purpose. I was pleased to award him Best Dog and later Best In Show?.
Thank you so much to the Grahams of Scotland who entrusted Heather and I with their babies. Without them the Golden world "down under" would have not have been able to benefit from these special Goldens.
Daly and Pepper will live on in their progeny who have continued to win under specialists on both sides of the Tasman and they have formed the basis of many of todays successful Golden Retriever kennels.
Daly passed away peacefully in his sleep after battling with a lung infection that would not respond to antibiotics.
You may be gone but you will never be forgotten. You were a ?Once in a lifetime dog? and very special to all who knew you. I can still hear your signature "woof woof" that everyone at shows got to know only too well!!
?Rest in peace my dear Man.?
